Compton levies a 10% Transient Occupancy Tax on rental stays under 31 consecutive days. Hosts must collect and remit TOT on all qualifying bookings.
The City of Compton charges a 10% Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) on properties rented for less than 31 consecutive days. All operators of transient lodging, including any legally operating short-term rentals, must collect this tax from guests and remit it to the city. The TOT applies to hotels, motels, and any other qualifying transient accommodations. Operators must obtain a business license and register for TOT collection with the Finance Department. Note that because STRs are prohibited in most residential zones, the TOT primarily applies to licensed hotel and motel operations.
Failure to collect or remit TOT results in penalties and interest. Operating without proper registration may result in additional code enforcement action.
