Full Breakdown
In unincorporated Pima County, anyone who wants to dig a hole, trench or ditch in a public street, alley or drainageway, change a curb, or install paving, irrigation, landscaping or a flood-control improvement in a county right-of-way or drainage easement must first get written permission from the county engineer. The engineer issues the permit only after finding the work won't interfere with public travel or public health and safety, and inspects the work before the county accepts it. Applicants may also be required to post a performance bond covering 100% of the work's cost.
Violations & Fines
Work done in a county right-of-way without an engineer-issued permit is unauthorized construction; the county engineer can require removal, correction or a stop-work order, and applicants who post a bond risk forfeiture for noncompliant work.
