Mobile, AL Sign Regulations: Digital Billboards (2026)

Under the Unified Development Code, off-premise electronic or digital billboards may change images no more than once every eight seconds, with no blinking, animation, scrolling or fading effects, and must dim automatically at night via ambient light sensors (max 5,000 nits by day, 500 nits after sunset). Digital billboards must sit at least 500 feet from any R-1, R-2, or R-3 residential property line and 3,000 linear feet from another digital sign facing the same direction of travel. A separate on-premise electronic sign scheme applies under subsection O, with its own 300-foot residential buffer and a ban on electronic signs inside historic districts. A $250-per-structure fee applies under Sec. 2-102.
