Full Breakdown
Outdoor advertising signs (billboards) are off-premise signs and may go up only in six named locations citywide, one of which is Interstate-75: the only freeway in the city. Along I-75 the normal 1,500-foot radius separation between billboards becomes a 1,500 linear foot separation instead. Every billboard is capped at 400 square feet of copy and 35 feet in height, with 25-foot street-frontage, 15-foot side and 15-foot rear setbacks measured from the leading edge of the sign face. No variance may be granted from these location or dimensional limits.
Violations & Fines
Building a billboard outside the six listed corridors, or one that exceeds 400 square feet, 35 feet in height, or violates the setback or separation rules, is unpermittable; the code bars variances from these limits outright, and an unpermitted sign is subject to removal under the city's sign permit process.
