030(14) of the Chelan County Code treats yard and garage-sale signs advertising a private sale of used goods as an exempt sign, meaning no county sign permit is required, so long as the display period does not run longer than five consecutive days. The section requires the poster to write the date the sign went up directly on the sign face; a sign without a visible posting date has to be removed and discarded rather than left standing indefinitely. The same subsection bars attaching these signs to specific structures: utility poles, street light poles or standards, the canopy poles found in the downtown areas of the county's commercial districts, and any traffic sign or traffic-control device pole or standard.
