Concord, NC Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Concord regulates yard sale signs by cross-reference rather than by writing separate rules into the yard-sale chapter itself. Sec. 42-33 of the Code of Ordinances, Article III, Yard Sales, states that signs for yard sales must comply with the current requirements in the Concord Development Ordinance (CDO). 3, Temporary Signs, which governs the placement of any temporary sign citywide. 2, a temporary sign cannot be illuminated, cannot be placed within any public street right-of-way or median unless a statute expressly allows it, cannot obstruct a sight triangle at an intersection or driveway, and cannot be attached to a tree, utility pole, street sign or parked motor vehicle unless the vehicle is registered and legally parked.

Temporary signs other than the CDO's "Type 4" category also cannot be placed on a sidewalk. 4 of the CDO makes any sign placed on public property or in the right-of-way without authorization subject to confiscation, and lets the city recover the full cost of removing and disposing of it from whoever placed the sign. Because the yard-sale chapter sets no separate size or duration limit of its own, these CDO placement standards are the operative constraint on where a garage-sale sign can legally go in Concord.
