Hesperia Municipal Code Chapter 5.56 (Garage Sales) requires a city-issued garage-sale permit and limits each sign to 4 square feet. Signs may only be displayed during sale hours, must be removed at sale close or nightfall (whichever comes first), and must show the permit number. Off-site directional signs require written permission from the property owner where the sign is placed.
Per Hesperia Municipal Code Ch. 5.56, garage sales require a permit (application: cityofhesperia.us, Permit Number 'GS___'). Sign rules within Ch. 5.56: (1) no sign may exceed 4 sq ft; (2) sign locations must be listed on the permit; (3) off-site directional signs require written owner permission; (4) signs are allowed only during posted sale hours; (5) signs must come down at the close of the sale or at nightfall, whichever is sooner; (6) every sign must bear the city-issued permit number. Signs in the public right-of-way (parkways, medians, utility poles, stop signs) are 'non-permitted' under Ch. 16.36.010 and Hesperia Code Enforcement guidance — they are removed on sight regardless of permit. San Bernardino County roadways outside city limits fall under County Code Enforcement (909-387-4044). California Vehicle Code §21465 separately prohibits placing any sign that resembles an official traffic-control device.
Signs without the permit number, over 4 sq ft, in the public right-of-way, or left up after sale close are removed by Code Enforcement at the homeowner's expense. Operating a garage sale without the city permit is a Ch. 5.56 violation; under Hesperia's general penalty (Ch. 1.16), administrative fines escalate from $100 (first offense) to $200 and $500 for repeats within twelve months. Repeat off-site sign violations can also lead to permit denial for future sales.
