Perris addresses garage/yard sale signs in Municipal Code Section 5.32.080. No advertising signs are permitted off the sale property or in the public right-of-way. Only one on-site sign up to four square feet is allowed (two signs, one facing each direction, for corner-lot homes). A finance-department permit is required to hold the sale itself.
Garage and yard sale signage is regulated under Chapter 5.32 (Yard Sales) of the Perris Municipal Code (Ordinance No. 1320, 2015). Section 5.32.080 (Advertising) is strict on off-site signs: no advertising signs are permitted off the subject property or in the public right-of-way. Only one sign not exceeding four square feet in size may be displayed at the yard sale location itself; for residences on a street corner, two signs - one facing each direction - are allowed. This means the familiar practice of stapling sale signs to utility poles or posting them at intersections is prohibited in Perris. The sale itself also requires a permit from the finance department (Sec. 5.32.030), with a permit fee set by resolution (Sec. 5.32.040). Sales are limited to three per calendar year at the same location and to three consecutive days (Friday through Sunday only), with hours no earlier than 7:00 a.m. and ending by 6:00 p.m. (Sec. 5.32.060). The city also offers one city-wide, no-permit-required yard sale weekend each year, the weekend before the annual Perris Community Clean-Up Day (generally mid-May). Violations are infractions under Section 1.16.010, punishable by escalating fines: up to $100 for a first conviction, up to $200 for a second within a year, and up to $500 for a third or subsequent conviction within a year (Sec. 5.32.110).
Posting yard-sale signs off the property or in the public right-of-way, displaying more than the allowed on-site signage, or holding a sale without a permit is an infraction under Section 1.16.010. Fines escalate from up to $100 (first) to up to $200 (second) and up to $500 (third within one year); each day is a separate offense.
