Putnam County, FL Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Section 45-744 of the Putnam County Code treats garage and yard sale signs as a category of special event sign, exempt from the sign permit requirement that applies to most other sign types under article VIII, division 2. Subsection (1)(e) sets two separate allowances. On the sale property itself, one garage or yard sale sign is allowed, capped at six square feet, and it cannot be placed more than one day before the sale begins; the sign has to come down at the end of the sale, not days later.

The second allowance covers a sign off the sale property: one off-premises garage or yard sale sign, also capped at six square feet, can be posted at the end of the street where the sale is happening or at the entrance to the subdivision containing the sale, but only with the permission of the property owner where that sign is placed. The off-premises sign is tied strictly to the sale's duration, it can only be in place while the sale is actually in progress, and it has to be removed at the end of the sale just like the on-site sign.

Garage sale signs are allowed in any zoning district under subsection (2), and unlike most temporary special-event signs, they are exempt from the general construction standards otherwise required under article VIII, division 3, since subsection (3) specifically carves them out of that requirement.
