Reno, NV Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Reno's sign code permits temporary garage sale, yard sale, and estate sale signs as a subset of temporary residential signs. On the sale property, signs are allowed during the sale event. Off-site directional signs are frequently posted but technically subject to restrictions: placement on the public right-of-way (medians, sidewalks, traffic signs, utility poles) is prohibited and such signs are routinely removed by the city. Off-site signs may be placed on private property only with the owner's permission. Size limits typically follow the general temporary sign standard of about 6 square feet. Sign material should be weather-resistant; signs must not use internal or external illumination, flashing lights, or attached balloons/streamers if those would trigger other sign rules. Signs must be removed within 24 hours after the sale ends. Repeatedly leaving signs up creates litter and can result in citations. Commercial sellers using garage-sale style signs for ongoing business are subject to business sign rules.
