Universal City, TX Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Universal City permits residents to post garage, yard, or estate sale signs during the days of their approved sale, subject to strict placement rules. Signs may be posted on the sale property itself. Signs in the public right-of-way, which generally extends 10 to 15 feet from the street edge, are prohibited. This includes signs stapled to utility poles, attached to street signs or traffic control devices, staked in medians, or placed at intersections. Code enforcement staff routinely sweep major intersections and remove non-compliant signs, and repeat offenders may be cited. Sign size is generally limited to 6 square feet or less, must be non-illuminated, and must not create sight obstructions at corners or driveways. Signs must be removed within 24 hours after the sale ends. Leaving signs up past the sale creates litter violations and forfeits the right to post future sale signs. No permit is required for compliant residential garage sale signs.
