Portable signs placed in the public right-of-way must meet VMC 20.960.090 standards: maximum 9 sq ft per sign face, two faces per sign, maximum height 36 inches above the walking surface, weather-resistant materials required (cardboard and paper prohibited), and must display the name and address of the person placing the sign. No sign permit or fee is required for portable right-of-way signs. Signs must be removed within 24 hours of the sale's completion per VMC 20.885 temporary-use provisions.
Signs violating VMC 20.960 are subject to removal by the city; repeat or uncorrected violations may result in civil penalties under VMC Title 22 enforcement procedures.
