Clarksville, TN Sign Regulations: Holiday Displays (2026)

Zoning Ordinance Section 8.1(2) lists signs exempt from the entire sign chapter, and item D covers holiday signs and decoration with no commercial message. Item C exempts works of art without a commercial message, and item G exempts signs displayed within permitted public festivals and street fairs. A display that advertises a business loses the exemption and falls back into Chapter 8. Placement rules still apply off the lot: Section 12-111 prohibits obstructing any street or sidewalk, Section 12-113 lets the city remove obstructions at the owner's cost, and Section 12-105 requires eight feet of clearance for anything projecting over a public way in the central business district. Nothing in the code sets a removal deadline for seasonal decorations.
