Holiday decorations and temporary seasonal displays on residential property are not regulated by Lubbock sign code. Lights and inflatables are allowed without permit subject to general electrical safety and nuisance rules.
Residential holiday displays such as Christmas lights, Halloween yard decorations, and Independence Day flags are considered temporary decorative displays rather than regulated signs, and Lubbock does not impose size, duration, or removal date requirements for residential holiday decor. Outdoor electrical connections should use GFCI-protected exterior circuits and outdoor-rated lights and extension cords per National Electrical Code. Displays should not obstruct sidewalks, rights-of-way, or sight distance at intersections. Extraordinarily bright or flashing displays generating traffic problems can be addressed under the general nuisance provisions of Chapter 18. Commercial properties may be subject to the commercial sign ordinance for digital and illuminated signage.
