Mesquite, TX Sign Regulations: Political Signs (2026)

Political signs in Mesquite are governed by Texas Election Code Section 259.003, which limits how cities may regulate them. Cities may not require a permit, charge a fee, or restrict the time political signs are displayed on private property except for limits tied to the relevant election. A political sign on private residential property must be no larger than 36 square feet, no higher than 8 feet, made of lightweight material, and not illuminated or have moving parts. The property owner must consent to placement. Signs are prohibited in the public right-of-way (including median, parkway, sidewalk strip), on utility poles, traffic signs, and public property. Signs that obstruct sight distance at intersections or driveways may be removed by the City regardless of content. Signs must be removed within 10 days after the election they relate to.
