Full Breakdown
The Coastal Zoning Ordinance governs unincorporated Ventura County's coastal zone, not the ten incorporated cities. Political signs may not stand within 100 feet of a polling place or historic site, within any highway right-of-way, or within 660 feet of a Scenic Highway. No sign face may exceed 32 square feet, and the total sign area on one lot under one ownership is capped at 96 square feet. Signs may go up no earlier than 90 days before a County-administered election and must come down within 10 days after. The Planning Director and zoning inspectors enforce these limits.
Violations & Fines
A political sign left up past the 10-day removal deadline is a public nuisance; the County can order summary removal and confiscate it at the owner's expense.
