Dunwoody, GA Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

Dunwoody measures window sign area under § 20-3(b)(4) by multiplying the full width of the sign copy, including lettering, logos and graphics, by its overall height in a rectangular manner, regardless of how the copy is arranged, and § 20-56 defines a window and door sign as any sign placed on or in the panes of glass of a window opening or door, oriented to be viewed from outside; a customary merchandise display behind the glass does not count, but any sign within 60 inches of the inside surface of the window, facing out, does count toward the total allowed.

Against that measured area, § 20-85(b) caps window and door signs in the O-I, O-I-T, O-D, OCR, C-2/M, NS, C-1, DV-1, DV-4 and CR-1 districts at less than 30 percent of the windowpane area, and § 20-88(f) repeats the identical less-than-30-percent cap for the perimeter center overlay district. A separate carve-out in § 20-35(1) lifts the cap entirely for a ground-floor commercial space determined vacant under § 20-56: window signs, including painted signs and decals inside or on the window or door of that vacant space, can occupy more than 30 percent of a windowpane without a permit.

Neon window signs face an additional absolute limit regardless of coverage percentage: § 20-34(6) prohibits any neon or LED tube or rope-lighting window sign larger than three square feet, while § 20-35(11) exempts one such neon window sign per tenant suite, so long as it is three square feet or smaller and does not blink.
