Fayetteville, NC Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

3 (Window Signs), part of the general non-residential sign standards for the OI, NC, LC, CC, MU, BP, LI, and HI districts, states plainly that signs affixed to the interior or exterior of the glazed area of any window or glass door are permitted to cover a maximum of 100% of the square footage of glazed area on each building frontage. That citywide baseline is far looser than what many other cities allow. 3 standard except that in DT-1 a sign attached to an individual window cannot exceed the lesser of one-third of that window's glazed area or 15 square feet, and the cumulative window signage for any one tenant space, or building frontage for a single-tenant building, cannot exceed the lesser of one-third of the cumulative glazed window area or 50 square feet.

The DT-2 downtown district is not listed among the exceptions, so it follows the citywide 100% standard along with every other non-residential district. B is required before window signage is installed unless the signage is otherwise exempted.
