Forsyth County, GA Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

Chapter 66 of the Code of Ordinances (the county's Sign Ordinance) sets window-sign coverage as part of its performance-standards tables for each zoning district. Section 66-113 states that "any sign, regulated by this ordinance, shall comply with the requirements outlined for the zoning district in which the sign is located," and the Commercial or Industrial Zoning Districts table under that section fixes the window-sign standard at "not to exceed 30% of any individual window frame," listed alongside the district's 140-square-foot aggregate sign-face allowance. A separate table for Neighborhood Shopping, Urban Village, Master Planned and Pedestrian-Oriented districts instead limits window signage to 30 percent of total transparent glass area (excluding doors) or one square foot per linear foot of street frontage, whichever is less, and treats any window graphic with lettering taller than one inch mounted within four feet of the glass as a regulated window sign.

15(A) extends Sign Ordinance coverage to displays visible from the property line, not just the public right-of-way, for commercial property in that overlay. Outside a monument sign or an electrically connected sign, a general sign permit is still required under § 66-61 unless the sign type is specifically excluded from the article, with applications filed with the Department of Planning and Community Development under § 66-62. None of this reaches the city of Cumming, which administers its own separate sign code; these standards govern only unincorporated Forsyth County.
