Full Breakdown

Meridian's Unified Development Code treats window signs as part of a business's total building sign allowance under UDC section 11-3D-8. The area limit is strict: window signs may not exceed one square foot of sign area for every four square feet of window area. Window signs may be non-illuminated or lit indirectly, internally, or with neon tube lighting, but direct illumination is prohibited. Unlike most other business identification sign types in this code, window signs do not require a sign permit from the Planning Department, though the area still counts against the building facade's overall allowed sign area for that district.

Violations & Fines

Window signage exceeding the one-square-foot-per-four-square-feet ratio, or using prohibited direct illumination, is an unlawful sign; the Director or building official can order it repaired, removed, or brought into compliance.
