Sparks, NV Sign Regulations: Window Signs (2026)

Section 20.04.010 defines a window sign as any sign that is placed inside a window or upon the windowpanes of glass and is visible from the exterior of the window, and subsection H.4.f sets the operative rule: the total area of all window signs on a business frontage cannot exceed 25 percent of the total window area for that business in the building. The cap is measured per business frontage, so a shop with multiple street-facing window walls calculates the 25 percent limit against each frontage's total glass area, not the building as a whole.

Unlike wall signs, monument signs and freestanding signs, window signs carry no permit requirement, and Section 20.04.010(G)(1)(h) confirms they are excluded from a site's overall allowance computations, meaning they don't eat into a business's maximum building sign area or count toward the maximum number of signs allowed elsewhere in the chapter. That relief is not unlimited, though: window signs still must conform to the chapter's general standards in subsection F, including the ban on signs that resemble official traffic devices, the prohibition on odor, sound, smoke or flame emissions, and the illumination standards that shield direct beams from any roadway or adjoining property. A digital window sign is capped at just three square feet under this subsection, a much tighter limit than the general digital sign standards elsewhere in the chapter allow for freestanding and monument signs.
