5. A qualifying system is capped at 10 kilowatts alternating current nameplate rating or 30 kilowatts thermal, must conform to all applicable state fire, structural and electrical codes as adopted by the Town, must be installed on a single or duplex-family dwelling, and its panel array cannot exceed the maximum legal building height. The Building Official must develop and maintain a published checklist of expedited-processing requirements on the Town's website. Applicants can submit permit applications and fees in person, by mail, or electronically, with electronic signatures accepted in lieu of a wet signature.

Before submitting, the applicant must verify, using standard engineering evaluation, that the roof support structure can transfer the system's wind, seismic, and dead and live loads to the foundation, and must verify at their own cost that the existing electrical system, including wiring, grounding and panel sizing, can carry the new photovoltaic load. An application meeting the checklist is deemed complete, and only one consolidated inspection is required, which may include a Truckee Fire Protection District representative; a failed inspection allows one follow-up inspection without the same procedural limits. Town approval does not authorize connecting to the utility grid, which the applicant must separately obtain from the utility provider.
