Coeur d'Alene, ID Soliciting & Door-to-Door: No-Knock Registry (2026)

Section 5.72.090 of the Coeur d'Alene Municipal Code, part of the chapter on door to door solicitation, gives residents and businesses in the City of Coeur d'Alene three concrete tools, and each one binds every solicitor whether registered or not.

The first is the sign. No person can solicit business at any home or business that has clearly posted any sign indicating that solicitation or peddling is prohibited. The code prescribes no wording, size or city issued placard; any sign that clearly indicates the prohibition counts. Chapter 5.72 sets up no list or registry of addresses, so the posted sign and a spoken request are the opt out tools the code provides.

The second is the request to leave. A solicitor must stop door to door solicitation at any home or business when requested to leave by the owner, an authorized agent of the owner, or any other person who resides or works on the premises.

The third is the clock. Door to door solicitation is barred before nine o'clock (9:00) A.M. and after eight o'clock (8:00) P.M.

Section 5.72.090 adds honesty rules: no misrepresenting the purpose or affiliation of those engaged in the solicitation, no false statements while soliciting, and no representing that the city of Coeur d'Alene endorses the solicitation. Registered solicitors must also visibly display the city issued proof of registration on the outside of their clothing under section 5.72.080, which lets a resident see at the door who has registered. Under section 5.72.030, door to door solicitation means any unsolicited contact at a residence or dwelling in the city for the purpose of selling a product or service, or soliciting orders for one.
