Fayetteville residents can get a free 'no soliciting/no peddling' decal from the Planning Department. Once a decal or a 'no solicitors,' 'no peddlers,' or 'no trespassing' sign is posted, it is unlawful under Code §116.02 for any solicitor to knock or ring the bell.
Rather than an online registry, Fayetteville uses a posted-sign system under Code §116.02. The Planning Department gives any resident a free decal reading 'no soliciting/no peddling' to post at the front of the home; posting it puts solicitors on legal notice. It is unlawful for a peddler or solicitor to knock, ring the doorbell, or try to gain admittance where the owner has posted that decal or a sign reading 'no peddlers,' 'no solicitors,' 'no trespassing,' or similar words. Solicitors must also leave immediately when asked. The sign rule binds even political and religious canvassers, who are otherwise exempt from permitting.
Ignoring a posted no-soliciting sign is a nuisance under §116.02, punishable by fines up to $500 per offense under §10.99, plus permit revocation.
