Fontana residents can opt out of door-to-door solicitation by posting a clearly visible No Soliciting sign. Ignoring a posted sign is a citable offense in addition to any permit violation.
Fontana's solicitor ordinance expressly protects residents who do not wish to be approached by commercial door-to-door visitors. A sign reading No Soliciting, No Trespassing, No Peddlers, or similar wording, posted near the main entrance or at a gated driveway, legally bars permitted solicitors from knocking, ringing the doorbell, or otherwise attempting to contact the occupant. Violation of a posted sign is an infraction separate from any permit issue and can result in an administrative citation. Residents who are repeatedly approached after posting can also pursue trespass charges with Fontana Police. While noncommercial canvassers such as political volunteers or religious groups are not required to obtain a permit, they are still expected to respect no-solicitation signage as a reasonable time, place, and manner restriction. Using the city's opt-out list, where available, provides additional enforcement leverage.
