Galt Municipal Code honors No Solicitors and No Trespassing signs posted at the entrance to residential property. Solicitors, including permitted commercial canvassers, who ignore posted signs are subject to citation for trespass and permit revocation.
Under California Penal Code section 602 and Galt Municipal Code Title 9, any person who enters or remains on private property after being asked to leave or after posted signage prohibits entry may be cited for misdemeanor trespass. Galt treats a No Solicitors or No Trespassing sign posted at the entrance to a residence as constructive notice to all commercial solicitors, permitted or not. Religious and political canvassers are also expected to respect such signs (though First Amendment protection means a sign-based ordinance alone cannot criminalize their initial contact). A solicitor who knocks at a door after ignoring a No Solicitors sign may have their commercial permit revoked by Galt Police Department in addition to misdemeanor trespass exposure. Residents may also use the Do Not Call Registry for phone solicitation issues, which is federally enforced.
Penal Code 602 misdemeanor trespass, up to 6 months jail and 1,000 dollar fine. Solicitor permits may be revoked.
