Full Breakdown

The restriction applies to anyone soliciting the retail sale of goods, wares, merchandise, or services for future delivery. There is no separate requirement for a no-solicitation posting by the resident: the hours prohibition applies countywide. Ice cream trucks and food peddler vehicles are separately prohibited from emitting sound from external speakers between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. under Section 7.62.072.

Violations & Fines

Violations subject to business license enforcement; operating without a required license can result in suspension or revocation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a salesperson come to my door at 7:30 p.m.?
Yes: the prohibition does not start until 8:00 p.m. (8:30 p.m. during Daylight Saving Time).
Does the law require me to post a no-solicitation sign?
No. The hours restriction applies throughout unincorporated LA County regardless of whether a sign is posted.
What if a salesperson has a scheduled appointment for 9 p.m.?
A prearranged appointment exempts the visit from the prohibited-hours rule, so a scheduled 9 p.m. appointment is permitted.
