Sec. 22-17 (Entrance to premises restricted) makes it unlawful for a peddler to enter private premises posted with a sign stating "No Peddlers Allowed," "No Solicitations Allowed," or words to that effect; residents do not have to register on any city list, the posted sign itself is the enforceable notice. Sec. the following morning, and at any time on Sundays, unless the resident specifically appointed or invited the visit. Sec. 22-22 (Refusing to leave) adds a distinct offense for any peddler who enters premises and then refuses to leave after the owner, occupant, or an agent has told them to leave and not return, regardless of whether a sign was posted beforehand.

These three restrictions work together: the sign controls entry in the first place, the curfew controls the hours peddling can happen at all, and the refusal-to-leave provision covers a peddler who ignores an in-person order. "Peddler" is defined broadly in Sec. 22-1 to include solicitors, transient merchants, transient vendors, itinerant merchants, and itinerant photographers, so the sign and curfew apply to commissioned door-knockers as well as charitable canvassers and traveling salespeople.
