Jefferson Parish, LA Soliciting & Door-to-Door: Solicitor Permits (2026)

Sec. 22-28 requires house-to-house canvassers, salesmen and saleswomen to obtain a permit from the sales tax division of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office before soliciting or peddling door to door anywhere in the parish; going out without one is unlawful regardless of what is being sold. Sec. 22-29 sets the fee at a flat two dollars, charged per partnership, company, corporation or individual sole proprietor rather than per salesperson, so a company with multiple canvassers covers them all under one business permit. Sec. , unless the visit was made by prior appointment with the resident.

Sec. 22-30 gives that curfew teeth: if a permit holder solicits or canvasses during the restricted hours without an appointment, the permit is revoked immediately, and the ordinance bars that same solicitor, salesman, saleslady or canvasser from ever obtaining another permit afterward. Read together, these four sections in Article II, Division 1 and 2 mean Jefferson Parish treats an after-hours knock as a permanent disqualifying offense rather than a fine-and-continue violation, distinguishing it from most other permit schemes in the Code.
