Paramus requires a license before any solicitor, canvasser, peddler, or hawker may do business in the borough. Applications are filed with the Borough Clerk and include identification and goods or services offered.
Under Paramus's Peddling and Soliciting code, no person may engage in the business of solicitor, canvasser, peddler, or hawker without first obtaining a license from the Borough. Each applicant must complete a written application in duplicate on a Borough Clerk form, providing the applicant's name and physical description, permanent home address, the nature of the business, and a description of the goods to be sold or services to be rendered. Licenses may be revoked by the Mayor and Council after notice and hearing for fraud, misrepresentation, false statements in the application, violations of the chapter, unlawful conduct, or activity constituting a breach of peace or threat to public health, safety, or welfare.
Soliciting without a Paramus license can result in immediate cessation orders, fines under the borough's general penalty section, and criminal complaints in municipal court.
