Marysville, WA Special Events & Permits: Parade Permits (2026)

Marysville Municipal Code § 5.46.020 states plainly that, "Except as provided elsewhere in this chapter, any person or entity who conducts, promotes, or manages a special event shall first obtain a special event permit from the city of Marysville." The chapter's definitions section, § 5.46.010(11), spells out that a "special event" covers "any fair, show, parade, run/walk, festival, or other publicly attended entertainment or celebration" held on public property or rights-of-way, or on private property if it affects the public's normal use of nearby streets and sidewalks.

Applications go to the community development director at least 60 days before the event under § 5.46.030(1); the director can waive that deadline for good cause, including a short-notice expressive march. The application must list the parade route with a map, assembly and disbanding points, expected crowd, animal, and vehicle counts, sanitation facilities, and the number of monitors or officers needed for crowd and traffic control (§ 5.46.030(3)). A $100 nonrefundable application fee applies under § 5.46.050, the organizer must contract with the Marysville police and public works departments for security and traffic control under § 5.46.060(2), and must post the city as additional insured on a $1,000,000 per-occurrence, $2,000,000 aggregate liability policy under § 5.46.070.

One-day, single-site parades are approved administratively by city staff; multi-day parades (up to four days) or any parade closing streets go to city council under § 5.46.040(2). Section 5.46.025(2)(a) exempts parades that occur exclusively on city property and are sponsored or conducted entirely by the city itself, though those still get an internal staff review rather than skipping oversight altogether.
