Amarillo, TX Special Events & Permits: Park Event Permits (2026)

Section 12-7-8 of the Amarillo Code of Ordinances requires a permit from the Director of Parks and Recreation for 'any group, association or organization with fifty (50) or more members desiring to use any park facility for any reason,' and for anyone seeking to use a park beyond normal hours. Applicants must file details including sponsor identity, requested day and hours, a description of the activity, the specific park area, and anticipated attendance. The Director must issue the permit if the activity will not unreasonably interfere with public enjoyment, health, safety or recreation, is not reasonably anticipated to incite disorder, and the facility is not already reserved.

A denied applicant gets written reasons within seven days and can appeal to the Parks and Recreation Commission within seven days; the Commission's ruling is final. Section 12-7-8(i) defines a 'Special Event' as any permitted gathering of 200 or more people and sets tiered fees: $1,000 for a one-day 'Small Event' of 200 to 500 people plus $100 for each additional day; $1,600 for a one-day 'Large Event' over 500 people plus $200 per additional day; a $250 refundable deposit; a $50 electricity fee; and a $25 administrative change fee. Additional standalone fees include a $50 daily vendor permit, a $25 annual water access permit, and a $10 daily water access permit.
