Augusta-Richmond County, GA Special Events & Permits: Park Event Permits (2026)

Section 3-4-11(a)(1) requires a permit from the Richmond County Sheriff before any group of 50 or more people conducts an assembly, gathering or similar event in an Augusta-Richmond County park, on a building or structure, or on a baseball/softball field or tennis court. The application, filed at least five days before the event, must detail expected attendance, dates and hours, whether sound amplification or lighting will be used, what temporary structures like stages or canopies are planned, and the safety, medical and sanitation personnel the organizer will provide.

The Sheriff has five business days to approve or deny the application, and can deny it for reasons including an unreasonably dangerous plan, likely traffic congestion, prior unpaid damage to public property by the applicant, or a plan inconsistent with the site's zoning. , and park, ballfield and interior-space hours otherwise follow whatever operating hours the Commission has set for that facility; certain county-owned facilities also carry usage fees charged under posted rate schedules. A denied applicant can appeal in writing to the Augusta-Richmond County Administrator within five business days, triggering a hearing and a written decision. Events organized or sponsored by a government entity are exempt from the permit requirement under subsection (g).
