Events in Houston parks require a Special Event Park Permit from the Parks and Recreation Department. Organized gatherings, amplified sound, and commercial activities all require advance reservation and approval.
The Houston Parks and Recreation Department manages event permits for the city's 382 parks. A Special Event Park Permit is required for organized events, amplified sound, vendors, or any commercial activity in a park. Pavilion and picnic site reservations are handled separately through the Permits and Reservations Office. Events expecting more than 200 attendees require additional coordination with the Mayor's Office of Special Events. Alcohol at park events requires a TABC permit in addition to the park permit. Amplified sound is typically limited to daytime hours and must comply with Chapter 30 noise limits. Athletic events, tournaments, and organized runs through parks need dedicated permits. The Parks Department charges rental fees based on the facility, duration, and expected attendance. Insurance requirements vary by event size.
Unauthorized events may be shut down by park rangers. Violations of park rules can result in trespass citations. Damage to park facilities is charged to the permit holder.
