Kentucky Consumer Fireworks Statewide Standards

KRS 227.702 defines consumer fireworks consistent with federal CPSC standards, and KRS 227.710 prohibits the sale or use of display fireworks except by licensed operators with a permit. Under KRS 227.715, retailers must register with the State Fire Marshal, and consumer fireworks may not be sold to anyone under 18 years of age. These statewide standards apply universally to all fireworks sales and possession in Kentucky. Local governments may impose additional restrictions on the use or discharge of fireworks within their jurisdictions, but the statewide definitions, age limits, and retailer registration requirements cannot be lowered or overridden.

Selling display fireworks without a permit, selling to minors under 18, or operating an unregistered retail location may result in fines, license revocation, and criminal penalties under KRS Chapter 227.
