Full Breakdown
Louisville Metro Code of Ordinances § 94.40 bans selling, exposing for sale, or possessing with intent to sell any fireworks or display fireworks within Louisville Metro, and separately bans retail sale of "consumer fireworks", aerial shells, bottle rockets, firecrackers, and roman candles, unless the item is a novelty, snake/glow worm, smoke device, wire sparkler, fountain, wheel, or ground spinner. Those same "safe and sane" items are the only fireworks the public may legally ignite, and only if the user is at least 18 and the device poses no hazard to people, animals, or property. True fireworks may be set off only under narrow exceptions like distress signals, military use, fire-service training, or a permitted public display.
Violations & Fines
Selling or possessing banned fireworks for sale is a $250 violation for individuals and a $500 misdemeanor for businesses; selling to a minor is a $500 misdemeanor and devices are confiscated.
