Kentucky Statewide Mobile Food Unit Permit and $200 Fee

Kentucky regulates food trucks as "statewide mobile food units" under 902 KAR 45:110 and the Kentucky Food Code, 902 KAR 45:005. Section 1(7) sets the annual permit fee at $200. The permit is issued by the operator's home-county local health department and is valid statewide once granted. Each unit must work from a permitted commissary for storage, food preparation, and daily servicing and cleaning, and no unit may operate more than 14 consecutive days at one location. Complex food preparation is barred on the unit itself. The Cabinet for Health and Family Services, Food Safety Branch, writes the rules; local health departments inspect and enforce them.

Operating without a valid permit, or scoring below 70 on inspection, draws a Notice of Enforcement; a rating score under 60 or an imminent public health hazard means immediate permit suspension without a hearing.
