Oklahoma Restricts Dangerous Wildlife as Pets

Under 29 O.S. Sections 4-104 and Title 800 of the Oklahoma Administrative Code, the Department of Wildlife Conservation regulates possession of native wildlife and certain exotic species. A Commercial Wildlife Breeders License or Noncommercial Wildlife Breeders License is required to possess most native species. Oklahoma also requires permits for ownership of large carnivores and primates. Possession of venomous reptiles requires a permit under 29 O.S. Section 4-107. While cities may further restrict exotic pets within their limits, state permitting requirements apply universally and cannot be waived locally.

Possessing regulated wildlife without a permit is a misdemeanor with fines from $100 to $500 per violation, and animals may be seized by wildlife officers.
