Arizona’s pool barrier law (ARS §36-1681) is among the strictest in the nation due to high child drowning rates in the state. Pima County enforces minimum 5-foot barriers (higher than the 4-foot standard in many states) with no climbable features within the barrier zone. Gates must be self-closing and self-latching with latches at least 54 inches high or on the pool side. The house wall can serve as part of the barrier with approved door alarms.
