Passaic County, NJ Swimming Pools & Spas: Fencing & Safety Requirements (2026)

The Park Property Ordinance's Article V bathing-code block governs the county's Camp Hope Pool and Spray Park. " Admission itself is screened at the gate: any person "showing evidence of any communicable skin disease, sore or inflamed eyes, cold, nasal or ear discharges, or any other communicable disease shall be refused admission," as are patrons with excessive sunburn, open blisters, cuts or bandages, and anyone suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The rules direct patrons not to enter the water while experiencing or recovering from diarrhea or gastrointestinal illness within the past seven days, require children in diapers and incontinent adults to wear snug-fitting plastic or rubber pants, and require all patrons to shower before entering the pool.

Flotation gear is restricted to "ONLY certified US Coast Guard Approved Flotation Devices," and proper bathing attire is required at all times, with religious headwear specifically carved out as acceptable even though other head coverings are barred. No animals other than service animals are permitted in the pool area, and any accident observed in or out of the pool must be reported immediately to a staff member. Admission runs first-come, first-served, and the ordinance warns that a regional lifeguard shortage may force the county to limit capacity or temporarily close the pool or spray park for patron safety.
