Pottstown, PA Swimming Pools & Spas: Fencing & Safety Requirements (2026)

Borough Zoning Ordinance § 507, Subsection 7, governs swimming pools as an accessory use. Subsection B requires that, to prevent uncontrolled access to a swimming pool from the street or adjacent properties, the property owner must construct a fence or wall around either the perimeter of the pool area itself or around the entire yard in which the pool is located, giving owners flexibility between a pool-specific enclosure and a full-yard fence. Subsection A limits pool use to occupants and guests of the property, and Subsection C bars any swimming pool, storable or permanent, from the front yard entirely.

Placement is further constrained by Subsection E: a storable pool may sit no closer than four feet to the side or rear lot line, while any other (permanent, in-ground or fixed) pool must be set back at least seven feet from the side lot line and 10 feet from the rear lot line. A storable pool that is not drained and removed by October 1 under Subsection D loses its storable-pool setback allowance and is held to the stricter permanent-pool setbacks instead, which functions as a practical penalty for leaving a temporary pool up past the season.
