Revere Municipal Code Section 17.24.170 requires all swimming pools to be enclosed on all sides by a 6-foot barrier with self-locking gates, exceeding the Massachusetts state minimum.
Revere imposes stricter pool enclosure rules than the state minimum. Per Section 17.24.170 of the Revere Zoning Code (Title 17, Chapter 17.24 Dimensional Regulations), all swimming pools must be enclosed on all sides at the property lot line, within fifteen feet of the immediate area of the swimming pool, or at the principal structure line by an enclosure or barrier six feet in height. The enclosure must be firmly secured at ground level. All entrances must be of sufficient height and self-locking to make the pool area inaccessible from the outside. Horizontal fence members that could act as a ladder must face the pool side. If a pool exists in an abutting yard, no horizontal members may be exposed on either side. State requirements under 780 CMR Appendix G and 105 CMR 435 also apply, including self-closing/self-latching gates and barrier openings under 4 inches. A building permit and final inspection are required before the pool may be filled.
Non-compliant enclosures result in stop-use orders, denial of certificate of occupancy, and fines. The pool may not be filled until the barrier passes inspection.
