West Palm Beach enforces FL Β§515.27 Residential Swimming Pool Safety Act requiring 48-inch barriers around all residential pools with self-closing, self-latching gates opening outward. Barriers must surround the pool on all sides with maximum 4-inch gaps at ground level.
Pool barriers must be at least 48 inches high measured from the outside of the barrier, with no openings allowing passage of a 4-inch sphere. Gates must be self-closing and self-latching with the latch at least 54 inches above ground or with mechanisms preventing child access. Where the dwelling forms part of the barrier, all doors providing direct access to the pool area must have alarms emitting a 30-second sound or be equipped with self-closing/self-latching devices at least 54 inches high. Mesh removable safety fences are permitted as one of the four FL Β§515.27 compliance options. Hurricane fencing standards apply for permanent barriers in Palm Beach County.
Non-compliant barrier: misdemeanor under FL Β§515.29, fines up to $500 and 60 days jail. Construction red-tag until corrected. Civil liability for drowning incidents.
