Floyd County, GA Swimming Pools & Spas: Pool Permits (2026)

Section 2-6-5 of the Floyd County Code, Miscellaneous permits required, lists installation of swimming pools first among the work that requires a permit obtained from the chief building inspector, alongside signs, mobile home tie-downs, grading and underground storage tanks. Separately, Section 2-6-3(j) adopts the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code, and all subsequent amendments, as the Swimming Pool Code of Floyd County, controlling the design, construction, alteration and repair of swimming pools within the unincorporated county. Section 2-6-6 additionally adopts Georgia Department of Public Health Chapter 511-3-5, Swimming Pools, Spas and Recreational Water Parks, as Floyd County's own rules, though the 2016 amendments there mainly govern public and shared pools rather than a single-family backyard pool serving only the residents and their guests, which the state rules exempt outright.

Permit fees for pool installation are set from time to time by the Board of Commissioners and kept of record at the building inspection department under Section 2-6-1(c), and the chief building inspector or a designee enforces compliance with the adopted pool code during construction.
