Ascension Parish, LA Swimming Pools & Spas: Pool Permits (2026)

Section 6-5(501) lists the work exempt from Ascension Parish's building permit requirement, and subsection (1)(g) exempts only prefabricated swimming pools that are less than twenty-four inches deep, are not greater than five thousand gallons and are installed entirely above ground. Any pool that does not meet all three conditions, meaning any in-ground pool, any pool 24 inches deep or more, or any pool holding more than 5,000 gallons, falls back under the general permit rule of section 6-5(500) and needs a permit from the Building Official before construction starts.

Section 6-8(801)(5)(d) sets the fee: all other residential building permit fees, including swimming pools, are a flat $125.00, the same rate charged for additions, renovations, accessory structures and reroofs. Because pool construction usually involves electrical work for pumps, lighting and heaters, section 6-8(801)(5)(d) also requires electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits when applicable, each carrying its own fee under the schedule in section 6-8(801). As with any other building permit, work started before the permit issues draws the section 6-8(802) fine of $200.00 to $500.00, and the permit lapses under section 6-5(509) if the pool project has not started within 180 days of issuance.
