Fontana residential pools must comply with the California Pool Safety Act which requires at least two drowning prevention safety features such as fence, alarm, cover, or self-closing doors.
California Health and Safety Code sections 115920 through 115929 (the Swimming Pool Safety Act) require that every new or remodeled residential swimming pool or spa in Fontana be equipped with at least two of the following seven approved drowning prevention safety features: (1) an enclosure meeting Section 115923 requirements, (2) removable mesh fencing meeting ASTM F 2286 with a self-closing, self-latching gate, (3) an approved safety pool cover meeting ASTM F 1346, (4) exit alarms on doors providing direct access to the pool, (5) self-closing self-latching devices on doors providing direct access, (6) an alarm that triggers when a person enters the water, or (7) other means of protection approved by ASTM or ASME. Pool builders must give the consumer a written notice identifying which features were installed. Suction outlets must meet anti-entrapment standards.
