Aurora, IL Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

Garbage, combustible refuse, recyclables or trash or rubbish containers to be emptied or removed by licensed scavengers for the city within residential areas of the city shall be placed and grouped at the street curb only after 7:00 p.m. on the day prior to the day assigned for pickup, and all empty containers must be removed by 7:00 p.m. on the day of the pickup. It shall be unlawful to place such containers or items at the street curb prior to 7:00 p.m. on the day prior to the day assigned for pickup, and it shall likewise be unlawful to leave such containers or items at the street curb later than 7:00 p.m. on the day of pickup, and such unlawful action is hereby declared to be a public nuisance. If the placement of such a container or item occurs in violation of this section, the superintendent of streets or his authorized representative may take all reasonable and necessary actions to abate the nuisance. Such actions, which may be in addition to a citation for violation of this article, may include the entry upon private lands at reasonable times and under reasonable circumstances to relocate or empty such containers or items. After said nuisance abatement has been accomplished, the city may bill the expense (which may include both out-of-pocket and administrative expenses) thereof to the owner or person in control of the property from whence the container or item belongs.
