Under Chapter 7.08, residential solid waste containers are placed adjacent to the public highway or curb for collection. A container plus contents may not exceed 45 pounds, and yard and tree trimmings must be containerized or bundled.
Inyo County Code Chapter 7.08 governs how containers are presented for pickup in the unincorporated county. Section 7.08.030(C) requires residential solid waste containers to be placed adjacent to the public highway, or the curb thereon, for collection. Section 7.08.020 sets storage standards: garbage and rubbish may be combined in an approved container; section 7.08.020(C) limits the weight of a container plus contents to 45 pounds at collection (the weight and size limits do not apply to bins designed for mechanical dumping or serviced by other than the permittee). Section 7.08.020(E) requires yard and tree trimmings, at the time of collection, to be placed in a container or bundled. Collection is limited to 7:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday (§ 7.08.140(A)). Inyo County does not publish a detailed countywide rule on screening carts from view or exact distances between carts; container presentation generally follows the permitted hauler's service requirements within each permit area.
Improper container weight or presentation is generally resolved with the hauler and Public Works staff. Section 7.08.200 makes violations of Chapter 7.08 a misdemeanor. The County investigates service complaints under section 7.08.170.
