Walworth County, WI Trash & Recycling: Bin Placement Rules (2026)

Section 26-341, "Solid waste disposal," is part of Article VII's short-term rental licensing scheme (§§ 26-334 through 26-346), which covers any residential dwelling rented for a fee for less than 29 consecutive days in unincorporated Walworth County. It requires the operator to keep adequate refuse containers on the property so garbage and rubbish do not accumulate or scatter on the ground, caps each container at two cubic yards, and mandates weekly pickup, with refuse collected within 24 hours of being placed out for pickup. The license application itself has to document compliance: § 26-344(a)(9) requires applicants to submit a refuse pickup schedule and the name of the hauler, and § 26-344(a)(7) requires a site plan showing the location of garbage collection areas.

The property rules posted for guests under § 26-343(i) must also tell renters what to do with the garbage once the rental period ends. Because this rule lives inside the short-term rental article, it binds licensed rentals rather than every unincorporated household; general residential collection in the towns is arranged through each town's own hauler contract, not this county chapter. A rental that lets containers overflow, uses an oversized dumpster, or misses its weekly pickup is out of compliance with the article and, like other short-term rental violations, can be referred through the § 26-345/26-346 revocation process.
