Bulky items in unincorporated Bostonia (furniture, appliances/white goods, e-waste, mattresses, tires, larger green materials) are handled through your franchise hauler's bulky-item program. They cannot be left curbside as regular trash or dumped on vacant property.
The County's residential recycling program defines 'Bulky Items' as discarded furniture (chairs, sofas, mattresses, carpet); appliances such as refrigerators, ranges, washers, dryers, water heaters and small household appliances ('White Goods'); electronic waste (stereos, televisions, computers, 'e-waste'); residential green materials including wood waste, tree trunks and large branches no more than two feet in diameter, four feet in length and fifty pounds per bundle; clothing; and tires. Bulky Items exclude car bodies and construction/demolition debris. Residents arrange bulky pickups through their non-exclusive franchise hauler; white goods and appliances are designated recyclables that must be diverted, not landfilled.
Abandoning bulky items on private lots, streets or watercourses is a public nuisance under SEC. 68.502 and illegal dumping; the County may abate and lien the cost.
